You go see a film, you love it. It becomes a hit, you find out there’s going to be a sequel and suddenly you cringe. Let’s face it, some sequels work, others don’t. Here are 8 that do!
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
The first Mad Max quietly prepared you for one of the wildest rides in movie history. Forget “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”, watch “Mad Max” and “The Road Warrior” together and prepare yourself for a post apoclyptic adventure of epic proportions.
Toy Story 2
As much as the first Toy Story is a complete classic, Toy Story 2 is even better than its original. The anmination alone is a vast improvement from the first one and we learn more about the toys in this great story.
X2: X-Men United
As dark as “The Dark Knight” was, this sequel starts off with a punch and we learn about how the mutants deal with prejudice and intolerance.
“Get away from her you bitch.” That line was one of the best lines in cinema history. Aliens is a complete 180 from the subdued Alien. Brilliant horror film.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
This film builds on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The late Ricardo Montalban is one of cinemas best villians.
If “Superman” starring the late Christopher Reeve wasn’t amazing, Superman II was excellent. Showcasing Superman’s flaws and vulnerabilities, as Clark Kent, Reeve had to the beloved hero choose between true love or saving the planet.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The this 3rd part of the classic film triology is from top to bottom a cinematic masterpiece. The scene stealing performance of Gollum put this film over the top.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Sometimes, after the box office success of the first film, the sequel as a hard time living up to that. Well, Terminator 2 not only did that, but it suprassed the first one in so many ways. Robert Patrick’s T-1000 who is sent to kill a teenage John Conner is excellent. Film still holds up 25 years later.
